I HATE WINTER. Because it HURTS.
Chronic pain whining of the COLD=PAIN variety )

What about you? Misery loves company. What makes your aches and pains flare up? What helps? Let's have a good wallow, shall we?

    It's so not my year
I've started then discarded so many posts on my continued nothingness, but it's all bad news, and this isn't the time of year for bad news, or at least the sharing of it.

    Still. )

    Ginger cookies recipe?
Otter and I want to make ginger cookies for our friend and landlord, Dan the Man, who has done us both bigtime favors lately. The boxed gingersnap mix from the store is nice, especially with a bit of fresh ginger added (Otter's trick), but I'm wondering if there's a far more awesome recipe floating around out there somewhere.

Thus my plea to the flist hivemind. What's the best ever ginger cookie recipe? Or at least the best one you've found?

Concert write-up: Crash Kings, Tally Hall, Rooney
[info]brynnmck and I went to see Crash Kings last night, and it was awesome. They're definitely my favorite band to see live, and they come here a lot, so that works out for me.

Indy Anna Jane is a LIAR... bless her little doggy heart
There are dogs that like food, and dogs that love food, and dogs that are passionate about food... and then there's Indy. Her love for food cannot be textually rendered.

She and young Commander Cody (now 14 months and 105 lbs, holy moly, stop growing, dude!) are fed a raw diet, which means they get raw meat and raw chicken or turkey parts with the bones still in, plus the odd smattering of veggies and herbs and such. They love it. A lot.

Raw meals can't be fed cold; they must be at room temperature for feeding. Which means taking the food out and dishing it up and then leaving it in the kitchen sink for 90 minutes or so.

This is HARD on a dog, as Indy will happily explain to you at great length, and it also inspires her greatest creative efforts.

See, Indy figures that all she has to do is get the Food Dispensing Person (at the moment: me) to stand up, and then she'll be able to convince them that they really meant to go to the kitchen and fork over the food.

So far -- and this is just in the first 45 minutes of today's meal warming -- she has tried the following:

    * Pawing at the back door, asking to go outside (but when I open the door, she races for the kitchen)
    * Dropping a fetch toy just out of my reach so I have to leave my chair to pick it up
    * Starting a spat with Cody so I have to get up to make them quit
    * Racing to the front door as if someone were approaching it
    * Barking loudly in a room down the hall (nothing happening there; race to the kitchen)
    * Lose toy under the couch so I have to go get it for her

As well as her favorite tactic, applied at least once every five minutes: Make best soulful eyes with chin on knee; maintain position unblinking; use power of brain on stupid human. Occasionally add forceful application of nose under elbow for variety.

Thank all things merciful that she doesn't know how to use the phone.

    No, really. Awesome.
This is turning into A Day, so I've put myself in the vidding love meme. My thread is here.

So this post isn't all about me: you know who is awesome? Jonas Quinn. I'm just putting that out there.

I can haz computer! Also internetz! \o/
Desktop has been wiped clean, disinfected, sterilized within an inch of its... capacitors? Something. *handwaves* New second omg huge internal hard drive, reinstalled operating system and everything else imaginable. Data files almost completely recovered and now squeaking with the cleanliness. Wireless internet also back up and running. \o/

Among the very few things that I lost was the file with mailing addresses for those of y'all who chose to share yours with me. Therefore: If you'd like me to be able to mail you stuff at any time for whatever reason, please to be filling out this poll -- and be sure to include the name you want on the the envelope/package/whatever. TYK. (Responses visible only to me. Yadda.)

Poll #1493610 Who likes snail mail?
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: None, participants: 23

I like snail mail! So here's my name and address:

Now that I am finally able to use my computer(s) at home... I have to leave. Oy. First 24 hours of dog-sitting (lots of online time), then a couple of days up the coast with LF(E)N and the Music Boys (sporadic online access).

Waaaaaaay much catching up to do on comment replies and especially e-mails. On it, boss. (You are invited and encouraged to remind me if I owe you, like, anything at all, okay? Okay.)

    Just dropping in to say
House tonight. HOW SO AMAZING. Episodes like that make me want to dust off a vid song I've had since season one, because of course my natural reaction to warm fuzzy show feelings is to immediately want to vid everything. I want to watch it again right now, except for how I have to be asleep in five minutes to get up in time for my bus commute. *shakes fist at sleeping*

    On Torchwood, vidding, and miscellany.
I have it from my flist that Torchwood is coming back for a full 13-episode season four. I had two immediate and equal reactions to this. Somewhat spoilery for Children of Earth. )

Happier things are going on. Merlin was excellent this week, and LotS definitely merits a post, so I will try to get to that at some point. Thanksgiving was lovely, and Saturday I cooked a not-a-Thanksgiving dinner of my own -- turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots, corn, biscuits, gravy, candied yams with marshmallows, cranberry sauce, the usual -- and I've been living on leftovers since. Nom nom nom.

Normally, the time around Thanksgiving is when I figure out what I'm going to vid for VividCon Premieres in the following year. I tend to go back and forth and announce to my friends that I am vidding five other things for it in the interim, but for two years running now, I have ultimately gone back to what I first thought I would vid, right about now.

So with that in mind, it's looking pretty likely that I'm going to be bringing Smallville to VividCon next year. I know, I know, you're all shocked. Whether I go for a full SV vid or SV as part of a multifandom vid remains to be seen, but, yes. Smallville. Seven months from now I may look back on this and have an approximate thought bubble of "Smallville, LOL," but hey.

(Relatedly, I've been taking a lot of clip notes for things lately. My favorite clip notes of late are from Lois and Clark -- things like, "8:30 -- Lex slaps a dude" and "29:29 -- Clark playing ping pong with himself, ends in chagrin.")

That's all she wrote. Oh, aside from Facebook being really worried about me and [info]sweetestdrain and constantly nagging us to reconnect. Sorry, Facebook! Nothing you can do will persuade me to talk to that hosebeast again! She hates puppies and Bradley James and thinks Kahlan is unattractive, and I will not be associated with her any longer.*

And now, back to Lois and Clark. ILU show. ♥

    * Note: almost entirely lies.
